Musical instruments, including the human voice, are what bring music to life. It can take a lifetime of dedicated practise to master any musical instrument, whether playing solo or as part of an ensemble.
Musical instruments are typically categorised by how their sound is produced. Instruments who’s sound is produced by a vibrating string are called, unsurprisingly, String instruments. Those instruments who’s sound is produced by a column of vibrating air are called Wind instruments.
Each broad category of instrument can be further divided. Stringed instruments for example may be further divided into instruments who’s strings are plucked (or strummed), such as the guitar, and those who’s strings a played with a bow, such as the fiddle or violin.
